Profibus-DP fieldbus interface

The SK-Profibus interface allows devices with a serial port (RS 232) to be connected quickly and inexpensively to a Profibus-DP fieldbus as Profibus-DP slaves. The SK-Profibus interface has two operating modes:

1) Gateway for large data streams

If the SK-Profibus is operated as a gateway, it converts the serial 3964R/RK512 protocol to Profibus-DP and vice versa. In addition to the SK-Profibus interface, which must be installed in the safe area, the scope of supply also includes the associated device master files as well as function blocks for integration in a Siemens S5 or Siemens S7 controller. The main applications concern intrinsically safe TERMEX operator panels.

2) Interface for small data volumes

The SK-Profibus is operated in this variant as a simple Profibus-DP slave interface for short ASCII character strings (maximum length: 32 bytes). Once again, the device master files are included in the scope of supply. Function blocks for controllers are not required. Intrinsically safe barcode readers in the SCANEX series are connected as slaves to a Profibus-DP fieldbus in this mode.
